VOICES and PLACES

We really do need to reflect more deeply on our thinking about and how we provide services more effectively.

- Bost Attendee

“Doing care differently” is a phrase we use at the Foundation to describe the impacts of health reforms. That phrase became the title for our one-day health policy forum in September, 2014. More than 300 people gathered to learn and discuss more about the changes in four specific areas: health information technology, quality, workforce and payment/service delivery.

TED-style presentations from the forum are available online. The annual Howard L. Bost Memorial Health Policy Forum is named after former Foundation Board member, Dr. Howard L. Bost.

BOST FORUM
AIR, ONLINE & PRINT

Public radio, public television, and an institute devoted to health coverage in Kentucky’s rural newspapers are examples of our partners helping to keep health topics in the news. Listeners can tune in for health reports on WFPL-FM that are part of our Next Louisville: Community Health series. Kentucky News Connection also produces health stories that are broadcast on radio stations around the Commonwealth.

Viewers have high praise for KET health programming which is made possible, in part, by grants from the Foundation. A documentary on how to raise emotionally healthy children, along with three separate Health Three60 programs, were all part of KET’s health programming in 2014.

The Institute for Rural Journalism and Community Issues at University of Kentucky provides the blog site Kentucky Health News, an independent online news service offering online and print content for rural and community newspapers.

I just finished watching the documentary Safe and Sound, about Kentucky's children. It was very good and informative.

HEALTH FOR A CHANGE

This free training series is designed to help local nonprofit leaders, coalitions and organizations working to improve health in Kentucky.

In 2014, a series of five webinars and two in-person workshops made up the Health for a Change series. The trainings, which included

how to write grants, how to build a business plan and who to contact in state government, are all available on our website.

Upcoming health for a change topics are posted on our website.

I've been writing grants for 10 years. The workshop was one of the very best I've ever attended.

KENTUCKY HEALTH COALITIONS DIRECTORY

The Foundation serves in the role of data collection & data analysis…providing tools to us & accountability to policymakers.

- State Assoc. Rep

Now in its seventh year, this telephone survey provides a snapshot of Kentuckians’ views on a variety of health-related issues. Through KHIP, Kentuckians share their views with policymakers to inform policy discussions and decisions. KHIP also helps us track issues over time, such as growing support for a statewide smoke-free law or the extent to which Kentuckians are impacted by prescription drug misuse and

illegal drug use.

We partner with Cincinnati-based Interact for Health to sponsor the annual KHIP. Results from KHIP are available under the Data & Reports tab on our website.

To propose a topic for a future KHIP, email our Community Health Research Officer, Rachelle Seger at rseger@healthy-ky.org.

KENTUCKY HEALTH ISSUES POLL
