About the Foundation

Established in May 2001, our mission is to address the unmet health needs of Kentuckians by developing and influencing policy, improving access to care, reducing health risks and disparities, and promoting health equity.

Highlights
  • The Foundation has awarded nearly $26.7million in grants since 2001.

 

  • 2016 reports from the Affordable Care Act Implementation study commissioned by the Foundation:

    • The percentage of Kentuckians without health insurance fell from 13.6 percent in 2012 to 6.1 percent in December 2015.

    • The percentage of Kentuckians who said their families had trouble paying medical bills dropped from 49.1 percent in 2012 to 37.6 percent in 2015.

    • The percentage of Kentuckians who said they had a usual source of health care increased 7.4 percentage points, from 82.3 percent in 2012 to 89.7 percent in 2015.

    • The percentage of Kentucky children who visited a doctor in the prior 12 months increased 7 percentage points, from 85.8 percent in 2012 to 92.8 percent in 2015.

  • 2016 Kentucky Health Issues Poll selected findings:

    • Kentucky adult support for a statewide smoke-free law surged to 71 percent.

    • Nearly 4 in 10 Kentucky young adults have tried an e-cigarette.

    • 42 percent of Kentucky adults say they don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables to meet federal dietary recommendations.

    • 17 percent of Kentucky adults said they knew a friend or family member who had used heroin; 27 percent said they knew someone who was abusing prescription drugs.
